Product Care

Wood Boards & Bowls

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap. Do not soak in water. Dry immediately after washing. An occasional coat of Artifaqt Balm will help the wood continue to repel moisture and increases the life of the product. Do not use vegetable oils meant for cooking as they can become rancid and may not dry properly, leaving a sticky residue.

Our special shop finish as well as our selection of appropriate woods gives some protection against stains and knives. Typically, sharper knives leave less scarring. Some people expect such a “patina” to add up and enhance the board, others choose one side for cutting and save the other for gentler presentations of cheese or finger foods. We also offer a Revitalization Program for all of our wooden serveware.

Matte Black Metal

The anodizing process leaves a very hard, stain resistant and durable surface, however, the caustics of dishwashing detergents will degrade the surface. Handwash with dish soap and towel or air dry only. Any Scotchbrite pad or a nylon brush is fine if needed. Oven safe to 400°F.

Artifaqt Wood Balm can add a protective coating to our black aluminum serveware as well as add luster and help to release food. Preheat the platter in the oven at about 120°F and apply a thin coat of our balm while hot. Then wipe off the balm with a lint-free cloth while still warm. Do not microwave. A quick broil is fine.

Chef’s Bright Metal

Safe for home and commercial automatic dishwashers. Chef’s Bright does not need polishing. If you choose to hand wash it, follow with towel drying to avoid water spots and prolong the life of the finish. Oven safe to 400°F. Do not microwave. A quick broil is fine.

Beeswax Candles

  1. Trim the Wick: Before each burn, trim your wick to about 1/4 inch. This prevents a large, smoky flame and encourages a steady, even burn. A well-trimmed wick also helps to minimize soot.
  2. First Burn is Crucial: The first burn is the most critical. Allow your candle to burn long enough for the wax pool to reach the edges of the container. This creates a "memory ring" and prevents tunneling in future burns.
  3. Burn Time: Don't burn your beeswax candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time. This allows the wax pool to solidify evenly and prevents the wick from becoming too hot.
  4. Keep Away from Drafts: Drafts can cause the flame to flicker and burn unevenly, leading to tunneling and reduced burn time. Place your candle in a stable, draft-free area.
  5. Dip, Don't Blow: To extinguish your candle, use a metal tool and gentle push the wick into the wax pool then straighten.
  6. Maintain the Wax Pool: Keep the wax pool free of debris, such as wick trimmings or matches. This prevents the debris from catching fire and ensures a clean burn.
  7. Store Properly: Store your beeswax candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This helps to maintain their quality and prevent them from melting or warping.
  8. Relax and enjoy the full sensory experience of 100% pure beeswax.
