Cutoff Bowl v2
Cutoff Bowl v2
Our latest version from the Cutoff Bowl series..
Ideal for serving your favorite snack.
When we process at batch of lumber for the RH serving boards, we usually start with 10 foot boards. Each platter is 14”. Depending on the grain pattern and knots of the lumber, we try to get as many serving boards as possible. Sometimes we are left with a “cutoff” at the end that is less than 14”, but still has plenty of potential uses. That is how the Cutoff Bowl was born!.
Wood - Rift Sawn American White Oak with a Charred Interior
The beauty of the black finish comes from hand burning the wood with flame, a process called shou-sugi-ban. There is more depth and richness than you would ever see with dye or stain. The technique originated in Japan to create insect and fire resistant wood siding. We’re borrowing it for beauty, but also function. Carbonizing the wood creates a harder surface and provides water resistance.
